A Couple Days in Amsterdam

They say there are almost as many bicycles in Amsterdam (some 600,000 of them) as people, and I don’t think that’s an exaggeration. Cyclists are of every age; they ride to work, to school, to shop and do daily errands, but definitely not to casually cruise around the city. They have their own lanes (shared with scooters traveling up to 40 kph), crossing lights, wear their regular clothes, and don’t wear helmets. Amsterdam has been a fantastic people-watching place. We have done many miles of walking, sometimes in circles because the canals can make maps very confusing. All the walking and museum touring makes one thirsty of course, and there are no shortage of places to quench that thirst. We are very glad to be staying outside of the central zone in a neighborhood where people live, not just visit, like us.

  7. Good to see that guy is no longer hogging all the pictures. How come you were the only person in the water?

  8. The joys of not traveling in July or August. Also helps that we are a bit more acclimated to cooler water temperature than a lot of people :-)
